So you decided to visit our little gem called Plitvice? – what a great choice! Just a few things before you embark on this journey to the oldest National park in the whole of Croatia.
We’re here to answer to usual where’s the entrance, do I need a ticket and can I swim in the lakes questions!
When should I visit the National park Plitvice Lakes?
No matter the month you choose Plitvice will always have a style that will be worth your trip. As far as the time is concerned we always recommend our guests to go as soon as possible so they can get a reasonable parking space and sort out the tickets before entering the park
WHEN DOES THE NATIONAL PARK OPEN?
The park opens up at 8:00 AM so it’s preferable to eat breakfast (the continental breakfast is served from 7:00AM till 10:00AM in our resort) and get yourself dressed for the occasion before leaving our resort. The park is well equipped and marked so won’t get lost, but still, watch out for the signs, and if there ever are any issues feel free to call the rangers (+385 (0)53 751 014) to come and help you!
Where can I buy tickets for the National park Plitvice Lakes?
Tickets for the National park can be bought online (and this is recommended, since then you will be sure that your spot in the park at that date is covered and you will for sure get in – because of the new policy, the park only lets in a certain amount of people at a certain amount of time). This is also why we recommend going to Plitvice Lakes early in the morning since you escape the traffic/crowds and sort out your tickets in no time!
If you’re in a hurry or haven’t bought your tickets online, don’t worry cause tickets can still be bought at one of the entrances of the park – make sure that in this case, you go as early as possible, because it will take more time for you to be processed and chances are that there will be a free spot that early in the morning.
What entrance/route should I take?
If this is your first time visiting Plitvice Lakes then we recommend you to go to entrance one and follow plan B since it will take you through the lower lakes where you will see some of the main attractions (such as the big waterfall) and still be able to ride the boat across the biggest lake inside of Plitvice and the train that will take you back to your car.
However, this route will only cover the lower lakes so just keep in mind that there is a whole part of Plitvice that you haven’t seen.
It’s most recommened that you take 2 days to explore the whole National park Plitvice Lakes as it can be pretty challenging to hike for such long periods of time (although it can be done). If this is not your first time or you’re up to the challenge there are other routes that might fit you better and you can find those on the main page of the National park.
What should I watch out for inside the park?
TAKE YOUR TIME!
First, make sure that you wear some good/quality trainers because a lot of walking is in front of you. Furthermore, most of the bridges that you’re gonna cross on this famous day are quite slippery so again, TAKE YOUR TIME!
If you decided to visit Plitvice in the summer, chances are that there are gonna be a lot of people there with you, so there’s gonna be crowds and maybe some pushing, this can be quite dangerous on some parts of the trail so please, be careful and TAKE YOUR TIME!
Please respect nature and don’t litter, there are plenty of facilities for that – and most importantly follow the signs and rules of the park. People can wander off the trail and get into trouble because they got onto a forbidden part of the park – follow the signs and you’ll be more than okay.
SWIMMING/FISHING IS NOT ALLOWED INSIDE THE NATIONAL PARK!
Adventure Awaits You
The most important piece of advice we could give you is (as you could might have guessed) TAKE YOUR TIME! There is a lot to take in when you first visit the part: from the beautiful scenery, animals, waterfalls, different flowers – that makes people want to rush through it.
There are plenty of benches, lookouts, breakpoints, stores, and restaurants even that should encourage you to take it nice and slow – don’t let a little piece of this magical place escape you.
And as always make sure that you get those National park Plitvice Lakes online ticket reservations ready because they’re gonna be sold out pretty soon!
